About Liz

Liz Totton writes at the intersection of ideas and the ways they play out in real life and how people adjust, often quietly, to systems they didn’t design but find themselves living inside.
She spent more than a decade writing about culture in the UAE, which is to say she developed the habit of watching how people translate themselves into new environments. Over time, that attention moved from physical places to digital ones. The settings changed. The questions did not.
Almost Coherent is where she tries to make sense of that shift, knowing full well that “making sense” may be too ambitious. It is, at best, a record of patterns: how trust is extended, how attention is traded, how meaning shifts depending on where you stand.
Her work sits somewhere between narrative and analysis, with a mild suspicion of both.
She writes from Abu Dhabi, where things make a certain kind of sense, until they don’t.
